Information on how you can help us

Lighthouse is primarily run by Christians from local churches in Hazlemere, High Wycombe, Loudwater, Flackwell Heath and other places close by. We aim to introduce the children to God, to explore the Bible with them and to help them look to Jesus as their special friend - all in a fun-filled week with sport, drama and music. You may not know what you believe about God, but so long as you're happy that we run on a Christian basis, you're welcome to help. We do insist on leadership application procedures including references and Criminal Record checks to protect the children and comply with the law. Lighthouse CRBD certificates are valid for three years under our present policy, but such forms from other organisations are not acceptable. If you want to know the reasons for this, click on our explanation page

Children are divided into year groups, then into individual "lighthouses" of 10-15 with a Lighthouse Keeper in charge, assisted by Lamplighters who might be as young as 12. Activities are "mainstage" with everyone together, in year groups, and in separate lighthouses (see "About us" for further details). Various training sessions and briefings are planned leading up to Lighthouse week itself. For details see the Calendar of Events (when available) in "Leaders Info" (button on left or link below). Recruitment of helpers for the holiday week in July usually begins in Jan./Feb. each year.

Many of our young helpers are involved with the "Fresh Noise" youth programme. See their report for 2007: CLick Here (This is in PDF format - file size 1.70Mb)
